This clip on pair of Sterling Silver Earrings was popular style of jewelry produced in Thailand, particularly from the 1930s through the 1970s.
Material: They are crafted from sterling silver (.925).
Technique: The black background is created using niello, a mixture of metals (copper, silver, lead) used as an inlay on engraved silver.
Motif: The figure depicted is typically a traditional Thai deity or dancer, such as the goddess Mekhala.
These pieces were often brought back to the US by servicemen as souvenirs.
Both earrings are marked Sterling and Made in Siam on the backs.
