After the previous issue's prologue, a brooding Morpheus prepares to return to Hell to free his condemned ex-love, Nada. Saying his farewells, he sends Cain as an emissary to alert Lucifer Morningstar to his pending arrival. Meanwhile, Lucifer eagerly awaits Dream's return, planning to make good on his oath to bring about the Dream King's destruction. (Note: This issue features the first appearance of Daniel, the future Sandman.)
